A buyer-research evidence sheet
A self-directed evidence worksheet demonstrating how to separate observations, inferences, and open questions. Not client work.
Overview
This project designs an evidence sheet for organizing public information. The worksheet and process diagram on this page are the deliverables. No actual buyer companies were researched or contacted.
Context & objective
How can an account-research note keep a plausible interpretation from becoming an asserted fact? This demonstration aims to connect each observation to its source, review date, and next unresolved question.
Approach
- Define the commercial question and the boundaries of the research.
- Record a source and direct observation before drawing a fit conclusion.
- Keep inferences, unknowns, and follow-up questions in separate fields.
Work performed & deliverable
We designed these fields and wrote the distinctions between sources, observations, and judgments into the worksheet. The diagram shows the intended recording sequence.
On narrow screens, scroll the table sideways; keyboard users can focus this region and use arrow keys.
| Worksheet field | What to record | Boundary to preserve |
|---|---|---|
| Research question | The specific question this research needs to answer. | A research scope is not a fit conclusion. |
| Source & review date | Public source URL, date reviewed, and relevant passage. | Keep the review context when a source may change. |
| Direct observation | What the source explicitly says. | An omission is not evidence of absence. |
| Inference & unknowns | A possible interpretation and what remains unconfirmed. | Do not label inference as verified fact. |
| Next step | Information to verify or a question to ask. | Do not imply contact when no outreach has occurred. |
Outcome & limitations
The outcome is a reusable worksheet. This demonstration did not verify buyers, produce an account list, conduct outreach, or measure commercial performance. It demonstrates an information-organizing method, not a market finding.
Next steps
For a real research assignment, agree the scope and permissible sources first, then review the completed records. A commercial fit decision still needs further verification.
